Default [Fixed] Strange Vertical Bar in Full Screen Mode

Hey,

I've got this odd problem when watching video files that started after Media Player crashed one time. It happens with both Windows Media Player, and with Power DVD (came installed on the comp) when I try to watch a movie in full screen mode. The videos play fine when they are in a smaller window, so I don't think it has to do with the files and DVDs themselves.

The bar appears on the left side of the screen, and it seems to show what is being displayed on the right side of the screen.

I've tried taking screen shots to show exactly what's happening, but copyright protection in the programs won't have it.

If anyone has any ideas as to what is going on, that'd be great.

Are you using Windows XP?

Have you tried uninstalling and then re-installing Windows Media Player?

Checkout this Microsoft Site, it explains how to uninstall Windows Media Player:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/faq.aspx#2_3

You can download Windows Media Player 10 here :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...0/default.aspx

Alternatively it could be a video card driver problem. Have you upgraded your drivers recently?

Welcome to PCHF

Also, you may want to grab the latest version of your graphics cards drivers. Post your card details & Windows version here if you are unsure and we will find the drivers for you.

okay,
I have a Gateway 3522GZ Notebook; specs here:

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/.../4653sp3.shtml

The video card is an integrated Intel 852GME Extreme 2 card.

I haven't tried uninstalling Media Player, but I'm not sure if that will do anything since I'm noticing the same bar in the DVD prog; however, I will give it a try.

I haven't updated the drivers in about three months, so I could give that a try.

Thanks for the help so far.

Okay, I've figured it out.

It was a problem with the resolution settings; the notebook is a "widescreen" and I had the resolution set at 1280x720, but it needed to be set at 1280x768.

What seems to have actually happened is the image from the last 48 pixels on the right displayed itself on the left side.

Thanks again for the help.
