Default [Fixed] DJ Setup

Hello again.? I could use a little advice.? At our bar we are going to set up a new dj system, entirely computer based.? We are going to purchase a new computer for out office, wipe the old one out and use that for now.? That way if we find that it just doesnt work, no really big losses.? Ok what i was wondering is what is my best bet to get the music from the computer to the amp.? Would a simple cable like this work fine?

Or would i be better to go with a product I found that connects to your usb and then is designed specifially to go out to a amp. This Xitel product sounds quite nice.

Also will a typical sound card be up to the task.? We are a dance club at nights so we get to pumpin out some pretty good sound, i dont want to hear fuzz or anything.

Another question (which is now in the wrong topic :P) would be what program would you recommend to play the songs.? My plan was to use Musicmatch, although i am not a big fan of 10, i liked 9 better...? Do you have any better suggestions for me, the ability to fade the songs from one to another would be awesome ? Thanx

Sounds good Daem.

I have passed this topic on to a friend of mine who is a DJ. Hopefully he should come back to you soon.

Ahhhhh... right!

Daem
Well, I am a CD DJ & not a PC DJ, but I will try and give good advice. I may have to answer your question in seperate bits as it could get tricky. Have you got a budget? Have you demoed any s/w? What is your PC like?

I would firstly download demos of OTS DJ, PC DJ & Traktor. These are the 3 main players. You need to decide which way you are gonna go.

Sound cards??? Maya EX7 or Maya44 MkII. Dont think about using a NORMAL soundcard.

Mixers?? You will probably want one, especially for mic input.

Controller?? Although you can use the S/W controller on screen you may prefer to use a rack mount controller for things such as crossover and fading.

Give me a few answers and we will carry on from there mate.

Ok, well i plan to purchase the Maya44 that you suggested. The pc i am using is a pent 4 dell, i will do a full wipe, and add some ram. For a program i have decided to used Traktor, i found tha ti liked it the best and it seemed to suit my needs. We plan to keep our "old" cd mixer as a backup. Does that all sound copesetic?

One other question i had is concerning downloading. Do you know the legality of playin music from a paying dowloading sharware type program. I had hoped to dowload from Napster because it is "legitimate" now. I know that we pay a yearly fee for... some liscense to play music. I was just curious if u knew weather this would also cover dowloaded mp3 files. :0 thanx again man, ur a life saver
