Default HP Restore

Lately we have been getting allot of problem's with HP system restore problem's so I thought I would write a tutorial on just that. This way you don't have to go anywhere but here to bring your PC back to life.
Firstly, There are 2 ways to do an HP restore.
1) A non-destructive recovery. Which will add all the files you had when it first shipped but it will not delete any file's you have on the PC now.
2) A Destructive Recovery. As the name suggest it will destroy all files on the PC and it will be like it came when it was first shipped.

All Hp PC's come with a backup partition. Which you cannot see the files inside this partition, but you can delete it. I wouldn't suggest it but if you need room you need room.
First of we are going to make up some backup disc's since HP usually does not ship you them unless you call them once you receive the PC.
To do this Go to Start/All Programs/PC Help and Tools/HP Pc Recovery CD/DVD Creator Tools.
Double click on the Hp Recovery CD/DVD tool, and it will take you through making the backup disc's you will need. In Caution if you have a DVD writer and 2 extra DVDs it is best to do it this way.
Because Depending on how many programs your PC shipped with it could take up to 12 Cd's which in turn will take along time to reinstall from them.
After the disc's are made. Your protected of accidental deleting your recovery partition.
Next We are going to look at our BOOT.INI file. This let's the PC know where to boot from and how to boot up.
Right Click on My Computer/Properties/Advanced/Startup And Recovery/Settings
You will see the below Image on your desktop.

Now Press Settings and you will see the image below. Click On Edit. And Copy and paste the below in the box that pop's up.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Now. Click Apply/OK.

Now were going to reboot and continuously pressing F10 this next picture should be the next thing you see.

Press Enter. Next will come your choices of what you want to do either the non- destructive recovery, or Destructive recovery. From there it will do everything itself.

Now you have a PC that will be as fast as when it first came to you. Hope this mini tutorials helps. Any Question feel free to ask away in the forums.

Happy Computing
Merlin
