Hi gfairley

This is mostly a matter of preference, some people like Live Messenger (versions 8.0 and above) where as others prefer the good old MSN (versions 7.5 and below).

The reasons for this include the interface changes brought about in WLM which some find undesirable compared to the classic look and feel of MSN Messenger.

Unfortunately, if you find yourself in the latter group, Microsoft have since tried to force users of XP and later into installing their Live Messenger program by prompting you to upgrade when trying to run an older version, due to a 'security vulnerability' in versions 6.2 to 8.0.

Currently the latest stable version is 8.5.1302 and you can grab Live Messenger 2009 beta 2 if you fancy trying that out. I did install the previous beta but ended up switching back to 8.5 as I didn't like the 'Vista-ish' look and feel, and one or two bugs needed ironing out.

In regards to your webcam, yes it should work without any complication, other than you may having to install a driver for it. Usually this is supplied on a driver disk that came with your camera, otherwise it should just be a simple case of searching the manufacturers website for one.

If you run into any problems you can always ask here for help

I like version 8.something i had before, They recently brought out a new version that's like very round and seems like there is allot of unnecessary junk on it which i dislike
