Thanks for responding ladygreenwitch,
I have thought of that, but I haven't done it yet. I will try this tonight when I get home and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again!
oh... and in response to your task manager question, nothing is running especially high. I do notice several svchost.exe processes jumping up to 30 or 40 from time to time.
If I hit "end process" on most of my svchost.exe processes, the cpu usage drops back to a workable percentage. Though I still cannot update McAfee once this is done.

Hey BonerMalone,If that doesn't work, I think that I am going to ask the Security Team to do a Combofix check on your PC, it sounds to me as if you may still be infected. Looking forward to hearing from you. TTFN LGW

Hi there,
Last night I uninstalled all traces of McAfee. This helped immediately. CPU usage is down considerably. Which is great! I installed AVG and scanned for viruses overnight. This morning I checked the progress and AVG had detected and removed 1 virus. But, AVG tells me that I need to update. So I click update, and now AVG cannot update. It says something along the lines of "update was blocked by server". So I try to go to McAfee's website to reinstall their anti-virus and I am still not able to access their website either. I tried clearing my cache, but that didn't work either. I think there is still something going on here. I have checked the Windows website to make sure I have the latest downloads. I am good to go there, however, Windows tells me that I am not fully protected, that I do not currently have anti-virus software. Any thoughts? Thanks! Scott |

Hi Scott, OK, that's what I was concerned about. I will ask the Security Team to run another scan with you. Please keep an eye out for their post. TTFN LGW

Ok.We need to download ComboFix.exe. This will give me a better view to the files running and also hidden on your computer and also those in the registry..Please download from one of these webpages .
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe * IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right-click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Double-click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. If it will not run rename Combofix to xxx.exe and run that. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.Recovery Console can be installed from your disc if you have Vista if you wish. Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console. **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures. ![]() Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message: ![]() Click on Yes to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
