Default PC acting a bit strange

Hi.

My PC's being acting a bit strange recently:

(i) when opening Firefox for the first time, two "SetUp" tabs appear in the taskbar for a second or two, then they disappear;

(ii) sometimes I can't access the internet radio stations that I often listen to;

(iii) sometimes when I close a window the taskbar tab disappears but the window does not.

I'd really appreciate some advice and have included log files as recommended.

Thanks.

log looks clean. You can fix this using hijackthis; just place a tick by it and then click 'fix checked':

O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)

let's look a little deeper and run an online scan:

Using Internet Explorer, visit Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
Thanks,

v

Hmmm. The 'report' turned out to be a load of HTML code!

"Your file of 207.6 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 146.5 KB for this filetype"

I'll scan again!

just copy it into notepad; you may have to copy it to word first as unformatted text (edit > paste special), but that will cut the size down dramatically.

I would like to see the original if at all possible; if not, we can move on.

Thanks,

Forgive me I'm a luddite when it comes to computers.

I did a second scan.

Same thing, a dozen or so infected files / problems.

I clicked button "Save Report As.."

Same as last time - a big HTML file that's too big to attach!

I'm lost???
