Hi - have downloaded and run Smithfraudfix but still getting yellow banner "Warning: possible spyware or adware infection" - trying to force me to go to protect.trustedantivirus.com. Anyone able to help me please?

Hello, and welcome to PCHF.

I need you to delete all instances of Smitfraudfix now.

Then download again from:
Bleeping Computer Downloads: SmitFraudFix

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Please attach this report into your next reply.


Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web,
Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop
system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and
"malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

OK, please run HijackThis and place a tick by the following entries:

Close all other windows except HijackThis and press "Fix Checked". Then close HijackThis and restart the computer.


After the reboot, navigate to and delete the following file if it is still present:
C:\WINDOWS\fvowketqplo.dll


Restart the computer again.


Now post a new HijackThis log in your reply.

OK, I ran hijack with the entries ticked as directed.
On rebooting C:\WINDOWS\fvowketqplo.dll was not present
Restarted again and the new hijack file is as below

Looks like the yellow banner has gone now . Only thing now is that web pages seem to load slower than they used to - otherwise all seems OK
