Dell XPS410 PC running XP Media Edition – SP2
Was running IE7, but cannot connect to internet using IE7, so now using Firefox 2.0.0.12
Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 –
PC-cillin was supposed to expire on 2-13-08, so I went in and renewed my subscription for 2 years on 2-10-08 – system had to restart when PC-cillin was installed and when it booted back up, I got a message that my date time clock had stopped
I went through set-up and tried to reset the date time clock, but apparently it didn’t take, so when PC rebooted, the date/time was sometime in 2006. I eventually got the clock set for correct date & time.
Everything was okay except if the PC was turned off, I kept getting a message the date time clock had stopped. Sometimes when I used set-up to set the date time clock, it would be okay – other times I’d have to set it 2 – 3 times before the system would actually boot up with the correct date time.
Since I’m unemployed (and looking for work) I’ve been hitting a lot of job boards lately. Just last week, I received an e-mail from some recruiter giving me a website to connect to. When I clicked on the link I got a message that indicated some application was trying to connect to the internet. I had never seen that message before, so I clicked off of it and then deleted the e-mail. The next morning I tried to connect to the internet using IE7 and I started receiving a redirect to
Customize Your Settings instead of my homepage of yahoo.com.
Then I tried to click on Outlook Express and Outlook opened. The only way I could get to Outlook Express was to restart the system and as soon as everything booted up, I could use Outlook Express – after a several hours would pass, whenever I click on Outlook Express, Outlook opened again.
Today when I tried to run PC-cillin after rebooting, I noticed that I did not have current update to that program, so I clicked on Manual Update and when I did that, I got a message that said “Update unsuccessful. Check your internet connection and try again.”
I’ve tried a system restore to a previous date (a couple of times), but that didn’t seem to do any good. HELP!!
