Default Prework logs prior to installing Smart Restart

This was a new computer that was having numerous blue screen error culminating in an unrecoverable blue screen error of a missing or corrupt hive file. I had to reload the operating system and all the software. After finding your forum I have reloaded the operating system and the other software and am now ready to install Smart Restart. I have not had any Vista blue screens or other problems thus far and have completed my PreWork. I followed your instructions and have attached the logs. The AVG Antispyware program found no problems, but did not create a log evne though I instructed it to. The SUPERAntiSpyware and HijackThis logs are attached. CCleaner was able to clean all the listed files. Anything else I need to do before installing Smart Restart? Thanks for the advice and your forum has been very useful and informative.SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 02-19-2008 - 02-11-01.log

Smile Re: Prework logs prior to installing Smart Restart

This was a reconditioned pc from dell that my daughter uses. It has a Vista operating system which is new to me. From the beginning it would have frequent blue screen crashes, but since it has an auto restart feature, we could never read what the problem was before it restarted. Finally it blue screen crashed and we saw that the hive file was missing or corrupted. This all occured with Smart Restart installed. We still don't know what happened or what caused it. So I'm learning to reinstall the operating system and other software with your forums help, and trying to prevent any infections before reinstalling the Smart Restart. So far it is going great. I have not had a single blue screen crash since I started the reload process and followed the hints I found in your forum. Thanks for the help, and I'll keep reading your site to learn more and hopefully keep having good luck with this system. Thanks for your help and for having a forum that those of us with less know-how can use to get great results.

We're glad you like the site

To stop your PC re-booting upon error, simply follow these steps;

Click on Start and then Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link.
Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simply double-click on the System icon and proceed to Step 4.
Click on the System link.
In the task pane on the left, click the Advanced system settings link.
Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.
In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.
Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window.
Click OK in the System Properties window.
You can now close the System window.
From now on, when a problem causes a Blue Screens of Death or another major error that halts the system, the PC will not automatically reboot. Rebooting manually will be necessary.

Smile Re: Prework logs prior to installing Smart Restart

I'll have to do some looking to find the specs on this machine, but the reload has gone well, and with the forum's help, seems to be running much better. In an attempt to keep this machine running smoothly, I would like to install ad-aware free version. Do you or someone else have a list of suggested settings for the program so that it scans thoroughly and removes as much as possible? The recommended settings that I found for the programs in your prework thread were very helpful and I was hoping to find something similar for the ad-aware program. Thanks again for your help. I can't tell you how nice it is to finally find a forum that helps people that are not computer technicians fix, enjoy and get the most out of their computers.
