Question browsers can't find internet

My kids' computer connects to the internet via a linksys wireless. All other computers on our home network (another pc -- hardwired to cable modem, and 2 wireless laptops) can use the router and connect to the internet just fine, it's just the kids' that's screwed up.

I have reinstalled IE7, installed firefox (same problem) have updated the drivers for the computer, checked and double checked network connections, and so far nothing. The frustrating part is that the wireless is working: I can ping other computers, and some of the installed programs (symantec) can access the internet on their computer. On the network connections, I have tried a default IP. I have tried resetting IE 7, disabling addins, restoring the computer, and still IE says the page is unavailable.

I'm worried that the more I tinker with it the more likely I am to really screw something up. What am I missing?

Thanks for your help.

Hi there and welcome to PC Help Forum

On the PC that doesn't "see" the 'net, go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all and hit enter. Is the DNS entry the same as the PC that can see the net?

Also, try typing ipconfig /flushdns (and hitting enter)

Hmm...two different DNS. On the "blind" computer, the DNS is the same as the IP address, while on the working computer, it is different. And on the blind computer the dhcp enabled line says no- is that the problem? If so, how do I fix that??.

Also tried the dns flush...still no 'net

ok, i went in and changed my network connection settings back to autoconfigure (I had entered in IP addresses previously in an effort to get it to work) and now ipconfig/all shows the same DNS as the working computer and dhcp is enabled. But still no internet. and I restarted just to make sure.. no net.

I am running XP (with all the latest updates-- at least up until my internet went bad), and Norton's antivirus.
