when it uninstalls, IF you've had 6.0 on before, that get's put back in place. On our company intranet, it doesn't display properly on IE 7, so I've had to roll back about 500 machines to IE 6.0.

Which is why I ask if your rig ever HAD 6.0 on it, as I've not seen that error before.

Thanks

I'm sorry, but my screwed up computer actually cannot do anything but open the XP installation CD.

Everytime i try to do/ open anything, I get a message telling me iertutil.dll is missing and i must reinstall it.

I would download that utility repair thing you have recommended however, i cannot access it with my screwed up computer, even if i was to download it then put it onto a usb, it won't open.

you can download irtutil.dll from Free Download DLL and Support Forum. Save it to a usb or floppy then copy it to your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, then reboot and let me know what happens. I'll check back later this afternoon, as I have a hard time checking on weekends.

thanks,

v

I apologise for repeating myself, but as I said before; when I log into my computer account, I am presented with the blank screen (excluding my usual wallpaper) and am unable to open My Computer, My Documents, or anything else for that matter.

I guess I got frustrated because I reinstalled my XP (and seemed to do a shoddy job, because I reinstalled the XP over my old XP, hence my system now has two versions of the same Microsoft Home Edition on it.)

Thank you for trying to help, but most of what you suggested might possibly had worked, had I been able to access My Computer, or My Documents, or any web browser from the computer....however, as I could not, I resorted to reinstalling XP

I think the main issue I'm currently facing is reinstalling everything

Hm, after reinstalling XP, I've realised that I've actually installed this XP over my messed up version of Xp, hence I currently have 2 versions of XP on the one computer. The version which is working, Im currently using whereas the one thats messed up, I can still access it's folders (WINDOWS), because the newer installed XP, i installed into the folder WINDOWS2.

The link you provided for the iertutil.dll does not work, therefore I am unable to copy it into the old, corrupted XP

My old corrrupted XP, isn't working seeing as the iertutil.dll is still missing there. Is there anywhere else, i can obtain this dll?

Nevemrind, I just managed to get the dll.

So YAYYYY both XP's are working fab. (however, my firefox (on the old XP) keeps telling me that it can't connect to the proxy server....and the initial problem seems to be there as well, whereby I get a message saying "Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown")

Is there a way to uninstall the new XP (the one I have just put in?)
