hello potatohed, and welcome to the forums.

You may want to print these out. please close all other applications, start hjt again, click 'perform system scan only', place a tick next to the following and click 'fix checked'

O1 - Hosts: 207.210.93.28 game01.us.segaonline.jp
O1 - Hosts: 207.210.93.28 patch01.us.segaonline.jp

Next, go to start > run > services.msc and navigate to the viewpoint manager service; right click and stop it.

Next, please right-click on the start button > explore. Click on Tools, Folder Options, and then View. Make sure that there is a tick next to Display contents of System Folders, Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected, and Hide known file extensions is not selected. Navigate to and delete the following files/folders:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Finally, let's run a combofix as you are fairly infected and I'm sure there's other stuff lurking in there. As follows:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

thanks,

v

Did everything you said. The hosts file change was from an online game free server i played a long time ago and the ijji plugin was a plugin for a game launcher. I dlted them all anyway just wanted to let you know. If possible, could you tell me what was infecting my computer and if it was serious? thanks in advance!

Default Re: My Hijack this Log. Help pls.

nothing serious; the nastiest one was launcher.exe; that gathers your surfing habits and phones home with them. You've also got a couple of p2p apps on there (azureus, limewire) and those places, while being places to download legit apps, such as linux and openoffice, also are places to d/l music and video, and you have to take the other person at their word that what you are getting is what it's supposed to be. Essentially breeding grounds for malware. You still have viewpoint and wildtangent in your program files; these should be removed. To remove viewpoint, though, you will need to stop the service first, as I mentioned earlier. You also have some questionable dns entries, so let's run another app:

Please download (save) SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your desktop.
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Select all of the contents and Extract them
to a new folder called SmitfraudFix.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

thanks,

v

Another question i have is what launcher.exe really can do? do i have to change all my passwords or does it just send my internet browser history?
