Default [Resolved] Problems accessing certain web sites

Experiencing problems this week out of the blue - not aware of any changes to system. Mozilla browser will connect to secure web sites using https but will not allow access to my on line banking account which uses 128 bit SSL and Java script, my Napster account and other random sites eg Microsoft Corporation. Strangely, it will allow access to certain sites where a login id and password is required such as pchelpforum. Have checked my security settings and both encryption and scripting are set to allow access.
However, the ISP browser will let me through to Microsoft and other sites which Mozilla won't with the exception of on line banking (ok, I know AOL isn't the best but it's worked ok for me up to now) . The message displayed by the browser when it doesn't connect to a web site is Waitng for www. etc. Am particularly confused by the fact that the browser will always connect where https is used.

Have tried IE and Avant and they behave same as Mozilla. Have run Spy Sweeper and quarantined several items but problem still there. Have checked firewall settings and all appears to be ok. Have even closed firewall down but makes no difference.

Hope someone can help.

Odd.

Ok, try a quickie....

Enter: ipconfig /flushdns in a command prompt (and hit enter). You will then get a message confirming the flush.

Also, try this in Firefox:

In a new tab type about:config in the address bar and press enter or open the about:config editor if you have the extension
  1. In the filter field enter security.enable_ssl2
  2. Double click the entry so the value is true
  3. Close the tab or about:config editor
Did you update Firefox recently?

Have done as you suggest - Tried ipconfig/flushdns and this successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache. Have also set ssl2 value to true. No change.

Am running Firefox version 2.0.0.11. I think the last update was over a couple of weeks ago and things were running ok immediately after the update.

Thanks for your help so far.

This would lead me to think the problem lies;

1) With your firewall
2) Your router
3) Your ISP

Firewall is McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, Router is Netgear DG834G V2 and ISP is AOL.

Any idea where I look first ? I've checked the FW settings, standard security is enabled and have tried opening Ports 80 (for HTTP server) and 443 (for HTTPS). I haven't made any changes to the router recently so that just leaves the ISP, but the odd thing is I can access some of the sites through the ISP browser.

..so more than likely not the ISP then. Did you try adding a proxy address into your browser to bypass your "given" IP and DNS?

Also, it may be a good idea to go thru the http://www.pchelpforum.com/hijackthi...r-hjt-log.html - just to be sure you are free from nasties.
