Default Internet Explorer "ignores" clicks on certain links.

Something seems to be wrong with IE 6.0 on this computer. When I click on certain links, IE 6.0 fails to respond, no error message, nothing opens, just nothing happens.

Here is an example.
Childsplay, Arizona - Tickets at the very top of the page are several links after the words Tickets for. If you click on one of those links, it loads a page corresponding to that link, but thin frame with those links remains at the top. If you click on another of those links a new page should overlay. It does with Firefox and with IE on other computers on this network. But not with this computer. Any ideas on how to track this down.

Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6.0 with current updates.
Have scanned with current Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Norton Antivirus 2003 all with current definitions.

Hello Wizard,

Try using: http://212.159.76.140/pchf/iefix.exe (you'll most likely need your Windows XP Setup CD during this process).

Updating to Internet Explorer 7 should also resolve this issue: Internet Explorer: Get It Now

Default Interesting results, but still have the problem.

First I tried the iefix, and it completed successfully but did not solve the problem.

I then installed IE7 and the problem did not exist in IE7, those links that were not working in IE6 worked just fine.

Unfortunately I need IE6, since I maintain a Website and need to see how it looks in IE6, so I uninstalled IE7, reverted to IE6 and the problem returned.

Hey Wizard,

I encountered this problem a couple of times, IeFix managed to fix it. Did it ask of the XP CD during this process? I have one more suggestion, and that would be to try another account on your PC. Go to My Computer, Control Panel, User Accounts and Create a New Account. Log on with that account and see if you still have a problem. If everything is OK, then use this new account instead, delete your old one when your sure that you have everything you need and it all working fine.

Hey, I think your on to something.

When I did IEFix it did not ask for XP CD during the process, and well that it didn't. I do not have an install CD. The computer is an HP with an HP install, they do not provide or make available an XP CD.

I rather not create users on my computer, XP is bloated and confusing enought without adding the structure it uses for additional users. So I decided to boot in safe mode, with networking. This provides two users, myself and Administrator. Sure enough, when I log on as myself the problem exits and when I log on as Administrator the problem does not exist, I am able to use those links just fine.

If I can't find another solution I will have to create another user, but for the moment I am going to hope I can find another solutions.

Thanks for your help.

I thought the user accounts option would be an easy fix for you Wiz, and will give you a nice clean profile to use. I really can't remember what caused the problem last time I saw it, so we would need to rule out one problem at a time (unless I have a moment of clarity which does happen... rarely lol). I think the first place to look for is malware. Take a look a PCHF Prework on my signature, and post a hijack log back here for analysis.
