When I am on my wireless network, I average about the same (unless I am doing heavy downloading, then it maxes out at about 2.5)

I did not see any malware there either so let's look elsewhere.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section.
• Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
• Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files.

It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.
Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.

In the Files Created Within group click 30 days
In the Files Modified Within group select 30 days
In the File String Search group select Non-Microsoft
In the Additional Scans group select Select All
Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.

When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is, then click on it to uncheck it.

Please post the resulting log here as an attachment.

ok here is some more information that might help us out. I tried several different internet speed test online and couldn't get any of them to give me results. The internet icon in the toolbar shows activity for a couple of minutes then it's like it just gives up and the activity just stops. What would cause the activity to just stop like that? thanks!

Do you receive any errors when downloading ActiveX controls?

The fix should only take a very short time.
When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished.
Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix.
Post that information back here along with a new WinPFind3u scan.

I will review the information when it comes back in.
