[Fixed] Help with Hijack This log / Virus
Hello...
I recently realized I have a virus, which I believed to be Brave Sentry ( desktop changed of its own accord, my internet browser was disabled, etc.)
So I ran several programs (Spy Doctor, SmitFraudFix, Ad Aware, to name a few...), and everything seems to be working fine now, except that I still can not get online. I am using a 2Wire portal DSL, and it is on my taskbar, but not lit up in red, as usual. Unfortuantely, their tech support has not been much help. They tell me that the only option I have at this point is to start from scratch. This is not an option from me, as that it would take weeks to copy everything off my hard drive.
If the virus were completely gone from my pc (as everything I am running says it is), would it instantly correct the damage it caused, such as enabling my internet connection? Or are there additional steps I can take to do that myself? It seems my 2 write will connect (turns red), but then soemthing msut run that disables it again.
I read that I should run HiJack This, but am not sure what items I should delete. I have attached the file, if anyone could please help me!!!!!
Much thanks in advance!

Re: Help with Hijack This log / Virus
let's get you up to the latest hjt first. As below:
Please do this:
Please download HijackThis to your desktop.. http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe
Alternate link
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...HJTInstall.exe
This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Should it not open, navigate to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe
1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.
thanks,
v

Re: Help with Hijack This log / Virus
Download SDFix from http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/R...ools/SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)
Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :- Restart your computer
- After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
- Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
- Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
- Choose your usual account.
- Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
- Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
- It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
- Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
- When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
- Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
- Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
thanks,
v

Re: Help with Hijack This log / Virus
OK... here are both logs after following your instructions. It said it removed some things, so... so far so good. The pc seems to be running really fast now... still just no 2wire.
Thank you for your help. I'll be waiting for the next step!
