Default Re: When you have time

LC, we ALWAYS have time for you. But you got yourself an outdated version of HJT. As below:

Please do this:

· Click here to download HJThis.exe
· Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
· Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
· By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
· Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
· Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
· Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
· At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
· Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
· Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
· Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
· DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

thanks,

v

looks good, old friend....what diagnostics do you use on that machine? There's a couple tools I use, such a pagedefrag from sysinternals, ATF from majorgeeks.com, and ntregopt also from majorgeeks.com that usually manage to keep the machine a bit cleaner than the average machine. The first and last will assist in boot up speed, the middle just cleans out all the junk that windows leaves laying around. FWIW, ntregopt will NOT touch the registry keys, it only compresses the registry of empty spaces created by adding/removing stuff.

Just a couple of tidbits. I'll mark this fixed.

Be safe, LC.

Truth be told Friend Valis, I use whatever is at hand. I test alot of utilities. I just never seem to be happy. I run mostly on gut feelings and knowing what I did before a problem crops up. I take care not letting things get past me and when they do as they will, I learn how to back out gracefully. Most people forget where reverse is... I could write a book on what I use or won't use and why. Case in point is the smart drive utilities that are supposed to let you know when your drive is about to die. Any good electronics tech will tell you that it either works or it dosen't. Drives don't die gracefully. They just die. So remember to backup often kiddies...lol Oh, By the way. My toolbox is not cluttered if anyone asks. It's my mind.

Thanks again Friend Valis. I'll look at those utilities you mentioned. I never concidered defraging the pagefile. Something more to study.
