Re: XP Home, Firefox, internet redirect
hello superhigh, and welcome to the forums....let's start with a quick scan and see what else we got going on in there.
Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.- Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
- When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
thanks,
v

Re: XP Home, Firefox, internet redirect
okay, let's start hjt, click 'perform system scan only, close all other windows, tick the following, and click 'fix checked'
O2 - BHO: CVirtualDNSObj Object - {86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6} - (no file)
if you don't want this on your active desktop at startup, you can tick this as well:
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - http://attach.re3.mail.yahoo.com/us....Letter?box=Inb ox&MsgId=3956_143818524_310412_1483_169762_0_5 2951_229385_1215627152&bod yPart=2.2&YY=38907&y5beta=yes&y5beta=y es&order=down&sort=dat e&pos=0&view=a&head=b&Idx=1
Reboot, and let us know how she goes.
thanks,
v

Re: XP Home, Firefox, internet redirect
Hi v,
It seems better, not everything is being redirected, but it still does happen.
The 1st time I ran ComboFix it stopped about the 7th test and a box came up which said : sed.cfexe has to close now" I closed it and the test finished. I just ran ComboFix again and the same thing happened.
I then ran a new hjt, according to your instructions and attached that file for your viewing.
Thank you for the time you're spending.

Re: XP Home, Firefox, internet redirect
log looks clean, but let's try a different scan:
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop. - Close all applications and windows.
- Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
- When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
- Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
- A folder, C:\Deckard\System Scanner, will also open. In it will be another text file, Extra.txt.
- Please also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.
- Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.
- What DSS will do:
- create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
- clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
- check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
thanks,
v
