Okay i did all that, none of the pop ups i was getting are still around which is nice, but i still have no control over my desktop or a control pannle. Here is my hijakcthis log

I just noticed that you are using an outdated version of HijackThis. Please delete your version of HijackThis, before downloading 2.02.

Boot to Safe Mode. Then run HijackThis and place a checkmark by the following entries:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [WinAVX] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [WinAVX] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe (User 'Default user')

Close all other windows except HijackThis and press "Fix Checked". Then close HijackThis, but remain in Safe Mode.

Navigate to and delete the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe



Reboot, and post a new HijackThis log. If your control panel and desktop are still not working right, then I'll direct you to try a registry fix.

Just to clarify - for the above HijackThis fix did you do it in Safe Mode?

Also, you haven't informed me as to whether your background/control panel is back.
