Default Internet Explorer Hangs when it first opens

My computer is almost 6 years old and has run very reliably up until a few weeks ago. The last time I remember internet explorer running properly was right before I got new comcast software installed on my computer. I recently became a Comcast customer and the technician who installed my internet had to install some comcast specific software on my computer. Since then, as I said, IE has not worked properly. Every time I invoke a new instance of IE, the window opens and then hangs seemingly freezing for a good 5 minutes before it finally goes to my home page. From then on out, it runs perfectly fine unless of course a new instance of IE is invoked at which time the new window suffers the same problem as the first. Ive tried numerous virus/adware scans such as adaware, ewidow and Norton, but none of found anything that. I've also tried to shut down various programs I have running in the background but none seem to be causing the problem. Attached are the hijack and SUPERantiSpyware logs. I ran AVG, but it turned up nothing, therefore no log is attached. Aside from the internet explorer problem, if there is anything that could help in speeding up my computer some (aside from more RAM or a new processor) I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your time.

Your logs all appear clean.

Have you tried uninstalling the Comcast software?

Hi Chiaz,

First of all, thanks for taking the time to review my files.

Secondly, I didn't even think to try removing the Comcast software. Unfortunately, after removing the software and restarting the problem is still there.

I've read that the problem was due to a program conflicting with IE thus causing it to hang, but as I said, I've tried ending processes but the problem never goes away. However, now that I think of it, I didn't experience the problem when I started in safemode. Any other suggestions?

Not for nothing... have you run Windows update lately ?
The reason I ask-- is you are still using IE 6-- not that I think IE 7 is a necessity-- but there could be other updates that affect usabilty.

another suggestion is to run a registry scanner-- to remove "leftovers" from old software (like the Comcast)-- anything that affects browser settings-- like those branded browser packages often do -- can leave stuff behind.

Another possibilty is PCPitstop-- used it for years-- it will scan your machine-- and suggest tweaks for performance in many things.
You do have to "sign up" with a email address... but I've never been "spammed" by them (PC World Magazine runs it)

Hi ih8bills,

First of all, thanks for trying to help me out.

Secondly, I tried downloading IE7 and I still experience the same problem. I used the registry scanner in CCleaner and I tried using the tools from PCPitstop, but nothing has remedied the situation
