Default [Fixed] Internet Connection Problem

hi all.

yesterday and without any warning,
my laptop, an hp nx9030, came up with the following problems.

1.When I switched "on'', It took about 5 minutes to go to the desctop,
after the welcome screen.

2.The windows firewall message came up, telling me that is ''off'', and when I tried to turn it 'on' it tells me me something about ''winsock provider catalog'', and if I want windows to fix it. I tell them ''Yes'', but after restarting, the problem is still here.

3. My antivirus (AVG-Home) telling me that is not functioning completele.

4.I cannot connect to the internet.LAN connection.ASDL.

5. When I run cmd/ipconfig, it tells me that ''an internal error, occured:
the request is not supported, please conduct Microsoft for Product Support Services.

6.I connected the laptop to another line, but the problem is still here.

7. My desctop pc, is working o.k.

Thanks for your time.
Your help will be appreciated.

Let's get the basics out of the way first.

Access the Properties of your C: drive.
Under Tools tab, click on the Error-checking Check Now... button
Place a check mark in both boxes. Click on the Start button.
You will have to reboot to complete the process.
This will confirm that your C: drive is functioning correctly.
If this doesn't pass, stop and let us know. Otherwise continue.

After the above, place the XP windows install CD in the drive.
Go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt
Enter: sfc /scannow
Note: There is a space between the "c" and the "/".
This will confirm that the Windows System Files are intact.

Hopefully both of these test will pass and we can go on from there.

Good Luck...

o.k Gandalf,
both test passed succesully, although I got no message for the second one.
Also it asked me about ten times to insert the correct cd, or press retry.
