Default Slow Desktop Shortcuts

My desktop shortcuts have suddenly become very slow to respond. I've searched for spyware and viruses and have defragmented. It's like there's something running behind but I've checked with WinPatrol and see nothing - it's driving me nuts.

Can anyone help ?

WinPatrol is a good program, but it does not detect EVERYTHING. Can you please follow the directions in the Prework link below and post the requested logs as atachments back into your next reply?

Default After Pre-work

I've done all the pre-work but still have the same problem. If I click on the Explore desktop icon the egg-timer appears for a while then just goes. I might do this 5 times then I get 5 homepage windows opening at the same time. The desktop seems so slow

The problem started I think when I missed re-newing my anti-virus protection for one day.

I'll send you Highjack and Superantivirus logs. AVG didn't generate a log for some reason. I might have to send two posts to send both logs.

Hello SqiQuicker, and sorry for the delay.

Please run HijackThis and place a checkmark by the following entries:
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http:// uk.red.clientapps.yahoo. com/customize/ie/defaults/sb/ymsgr6/uk/*http: //uk.docs.yahoo. com/info/bt_side.html
R3 - URLSearchHook: &Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

If you did not set these as your Active Desktop Components, please check these as well:
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/images/logo.gif
O24 - Desktop Component 1: (no name) - https://www.smartsnipe.com/csp/SS/Images/Xtr/hf.gif

Close all other windows except HijackThis and press "Fix Checked". Then close HijackThis and restart the computer. Run a new scan with HijackThis again, and post the new log in your next reply.

Default Re: Slow Desktop Shortcuts

Thanks for your e-mail; second HIjack log attached. My major symptom is that Internet Explorer (vers7) takes about 30 secs to open the home page - it's like it's looking in the wrong place. Once open then I can browse at usual speed. Also, Outlook has stopped working.

thanks
