Default Internet Explorer

Hi I am running Windows 98.
Internet explorer keeps coming up with the message saying it has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown.Sometimes i'm able to use Internet Explorer for only five minutes and the message will come up,the time varies really,if i'm lucky i'll get to use it for about 20 mins without it coming up with the message.

I've tried reinstalling internet explorer. And i've tried Firefox but, it also comes up with the same message!I give up please help!

hello james, welcome to the forum. First, close all windows (may want to print this out), start hijackthis, click 'perform system scan only', place a tick next to the following, and click 'fix checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://channels.aimtoday.com/search/aimtoolbar.jsp
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D70E6A20-7060-4829-B3D7-B6624A1DE7C6} - (no file)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &AIM Search - res://C:\PROGRAM FILES\AIM TOOLBAR\AIMBAR.DLL/aimsearch.htm
O16 - DPF: {82F2D6B2-6C58-4404-A930-9DB0FD90D4B1} (Driver_Detective_v43_Non_Member.DD_v43) - http://www.drivershq.com/cab/prod/Dr...Non_Member.CAB

Boot into safe mode. See how here: (How to start Windows in Safe Mode)

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how here (How to see hidden files in Windows)

Right click start > explore > navigate to and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\AIM Toolbar

Reboot, and post a new log.

Thanks,

v

Thanks for replying.
Ok I couldn't find Aim Toolbar in Windows Explorer so I navigated to it through my computer and deleted it,I hope that's ok?! I then restarted the computer and just before the login screen came up,for about a minute a black screen came up saying something like C:>SetDumpflags and it said it about 5 times it sat on that screen for about a minute then the login screen came up.Then I logged in and as everything loaded, then Zonealarm said it had caused an illegal operation and needed to shutdown. This had been happening preciously which I also forgot to mention..

I have attached the new hi jack this log! Thanks again!

>EDIT<
Internet Explorer and Firefox are still needing to shut down!!!
