Ok i have a BEFSR41 its hokked up to my PC and my playstation 2... now heres the deal with it... when i first got it i could use my pc and ps2 at the same time (as im both bein connected to the net at teh same time) or seperate just fine... A few montsh pass and now when i play (i keep my pc and interent connection always on as a result the router too is always on) teh pc works just fine never a problem with it but as soon as i turn on the playstation and boot up my game (its final fantasy xi by the way) a few seconds into playing it I start to lose connection and slowly disconnect (while the computer connection is still going strong) i try rebooting the playstation restart the game. same thing happens i try logging out of teh game then logging back in same thing happens the ONLY way to fix this problem (that ive found so far) is to unplug both the modem and router power cords for 3 mins plug them back up then both the PS2 and pc work normally from there on out (until the next day) .. Also Im pretty sure (though i havent tested) that my ps2 connection works FINE with any other online game i lpay it only seem to be FFXI.

So I figured ok ive had this router for awhile mayeb its just getting old (since like i said this wasnt an issue when i first got it) but Ive since moved to a new house, new internet connect, and new computer.... so i hook up the router with the same setup as i had at my old place... and just like it was when i first got it everything worked fine.. the aforementioned problem was nonexistant... 3 months later.. its back again so umm what exactly Is teh problem? Is teh router getting old? Is it overheatng from being plugged in and on all day... does it actually need that 3 mins of bein unplugged to cooldown to work properly? Why does my PC connection then does not disconnect either? Why does it only seem to effect my PS2 and that ONE game? Can it be fixed for good (other tha buying a new router) ir will i have to just jkeep doing what ive been doing to make it work?

1. You may have a power supply problem with your PS2. Some games require more system resources (power) than other games.
2. If everything is connected to the same power strip, then the PS2 could be affecting the modem and router. If this is the case, suggest connecting the PS2 directly into the wall outlet. This may releave the power stress on the modem and router.

3. If I read your posting right, your modem and router does not have any problem when just the PC is running and the PS2 is powered off. Is that correct?

Well with the modem hooked to the router and the pc and ps2 hooked to seprate ports (obviously lol) when the PS2 is powered on and online the PC works perfectly, when the PS2 is powered off the PC works perfectly.. however when I use the PS2 while the PC is online (but not in use.. i.e no ones browing the net or anything on it but it is only as its an always on connection) then the PS2 runs fine and sometimes it starts to disconnect (as mentioned in my first post) but while Im playing the PS2 online the second someone actually starts borwing the net on the PC (or playing another game online using the PC) then the PS2 starts to disconnect all the time... the only way to fix that problem is to unplug the modem and router power cord for 3 mins then re plug them.. after which i can use my PS2 and browse on the PC at the same time with no problem (until my next play session.. i.e the PS2 been turned off then on again)

It only happens when playing final fantasy xi on my PS2... if i play something like starwars battlefront or socom and someone goes and uses the computer i never experience a single issue on my PS2... as for the power thing my PS2 and PC are in seperate rooms and using seperate power supplies.. the only thing plugged to the PS2 power supply are the ps2, tv and maybe the DVD player.

Thanks for the addition information. That just about eliminates an AC power conflict.

Can you check the router for how the PRIORITIES are set for the PC and the PS2?

I suspect the PC data has a higher priority than the PS2. If everything is working well until the PC starts sending active data over the link, I suspect the router is programmed to process the PC data first. If this is the case, I do not know what reaction your game (final fantasy xi ) would have. Perhaps one of the STAFF GAMERS could shed some light on that aspect of this problem. Your game data may be timing out causing the game to die.
