It's running great; fast and smooth. Now I only have to sort out a couple of little niggles on this machine... fix the firewall (which I discovered yesterday just isn't working) and solve the Mystery of the BlueTooth That Isn't There And Won't Uninstall.

heheheh......soiunds like a case for Sherlock himself. I'll mark this fixed and move it to the fixed pile, feel free to start a new thread regarding that mystery.

I wouldn't mind seeing it if only for the title itself.

Just so you know, the Firewall is now working again.

I think I forgot to re-install it after I used the Reconstruction feature on this computer; it replaced all the System files (HP told me that from the information given, it looked like some of the system files had been corrupted and I should Follow These Instructions)
but not the registry- so the computer thought that Sygate was running fine and was there, even though it wasn't!

glad to hear that you got it worked out! You should post more frequently; you obviously know more about this stuff than the average bear, and we are always looking for good minds to assist....

Thaks for that; I'm something of an oddball problem solver in general (the problems are oddballs, not me) and know enough about computers to do bits and pieces, but also when to call for help.
