Default [Resolved] Slow comp

Hi There PCHF,
I have a friends comp to look at, the comp is doing the following:

It takes about 15 mins to actually load up on boot up and then it will allow me to operate it with out it hanging ( eventually leading to having to crash the comp when it does hang ) once up and running programes are very slow to open and when I close a programe it closes with the top of the screen closing down to the bottom very slowly ( mmmm it sort of eats its way down ) trying to shut the comp down is near impossible, again the need to crash it.

There are some other issues with the comp but I need to get this comp stable to enable me to post further.

Comp is Pent 4, 2.66GHz, 256 mb, 80Gb HDD, Windows XP

below is prework thanks guys look forward to your intructions. PS srry I might have doubled up on Spy Sweeper Log

Hello Cartandpeg,

I will move this thread to the Hijackthis! Logs section and someone from our PC Security team will get on it ASAP.

Hello, I need you to run AVG Anti-Spyware again.
  • Click on Scanner, Settings tab.
  • Under How to Act? - Select Quarantine
  • Under Reports - Choose Automatically generate report aftere every scan
  • Under How to Scan? - Choose all available options
  • Under Possibly Unwanted Software: - Choose all available options
  • Under What to Scan? - Choose All files
  • Click on Update on the toolbar, Then click on Start Update.
After the update, now run a full scan with AVG Anti-Spyware before posting the new log in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis log.

Default Reports for Chiaz

Hi Chiaz,
I done the AVg in safe mode assuming that would be the way as per prework instructions.

I could not find the following:
Under How to Scan? - Choose all available options
Under Possibly Unwanted Software: - Choose all available options.

Owing to the fact that I could not actually see those options, I can only assume because my page was taking up the whole screen (safe mode) there was those requests u asked for out of sight on my screen, I tried various things to give me the full control panel on my screen, but no joy.

Everything else was carried out ok, please find attachment below, sorry about those two I cant click on, if I need to do AVg in normal mode, please advise.

Thankyou Chiaz.

But have you set "Qurantine" as the default action for detected malware? What AVG Anti-Spyware is doing now is basically detection, since no action was taken.

Anyway for now, please go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs. Remove the following if found:
HotBar
180Solutions
New.net or NewDotNet

If Newdotnet is not listed, follow these instructions:

· From a computer that has Internet access, click on the following link:
http://www.new.net/support/uninstall6_90.exe.
· Download and save uninstall6_90.exe to the Desktop.
· Go to the Desktop and double-click on uninstall6_90.exe
· Click on the OK button.
· After removal, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot even if not prompted.

Please post a new AVG Anti-Spyware log. If you figured out how to have AVG quarantine the detected malware, do it.
