I have entered my details as best as I can based on information in Device Manager. I do not know the mobo but have put my laptop make and model in it's place, hopefully you will have a better idea. I don't currently want to take anything apart as it is still warrantied. It is only 6 months old and really shouldn't be having these problems.

There is no dust / blockage / heat in any of the vents.
I do believe Temp1 is the CPU.

Thank you for your help so far.

If it's still warranteed --
I would contact tech support immediately in order to "register" the issue....just in case.
Document who you talk to/what time/date etc.
You could have a defective unit-- it happens-- and you do not want to attempt to fix it yourself.
Tech support will guide you through some troubleshooting steps-- with which they will be much more familiar than I.
Then if they can't fix it via phone guidance-- they will recall it for tests.
I would say that the CPU temp is too high-- but I'm not a Sony technician.

I found the problem on the Club Vaio website and am posting the resolution to help others.

It was a DMA problem.
Primary IDE Device 0 was set to DMA if available, but only running on PIO.

To fix this, I uninstalled the driver, rebooted and that's it.

My laptop now runs at full speed (DMA Level 5). All sounds work, startip and login takes 1 minute as opposed to almost 10.

Hope this helps someone else.

Yes thanks for the update.... sometimes there are system-specific issues with branded PC's that we never hear of -- unless a member is kind enough to post his found solution-- we might never have heard about this one.
