actually i believe it to hold the functionality to your sound as well as other things. i have noted that at times that "host" is at 5mb on the system memory and other times it climbs up to 55mb then goes down incrementally again..

Ijust typed scvhost into yahoo, and every page i found on the information about it says its a trojan. but i have it on every computer i own..

I had this problem yesterday too :S, you may notice (if you've eliminated virsus), that it's mostly when you connect to the internet, what seems to solve it for me is double clicking the Internet Explorer icon when i first log on, browse the net for a couple of mins and it goes to 0% cpu S.

Strange fix I know but , I think it may be somthing to do with Windows updates but I dunno .

svchost runs dll's meaning that one of the dlls its running is taking up the cpu time, you could always do a system file check (start > run > sfc /scannow) to make sure the windows dll's arent corrups.

If that makes no difference, download process explorer and it should tell you what it is that svchost is running.
