I'm not worried about speed right now....I'm wondering why the other pc's can get to a site that one can't. Your answer just re-enforces my belief that there is a setting on the affected pc that is not allowing it to hit certain sites. That is really all it can be. If you can go to espn.com on all pc's, and yahoo.com on all but 1, then there is something wrong with that 1 pc's internet settings. The fact that it is cross browser eliminates the browser from the equation; it's either a firewall setting on that pc, or a security settnig somewhere.

But it is definitely local to that machine; has nothing to do with your router.

im going to call my isp today so ill see if they can help with anything..
but the security may be an issue. i installed zonealarm and spysweeper my last format.which was about three months ago. but i was wondering, say there is no security at all on 5 of the other computers on the network, could malware on those computers make something go hay-wire with the network?.

thanks for the help^_^

I would definitely run some anti-malware applications on all the computers to be safe.

I've seen a virus once that allowed a web browser (no matter which one) connect to 4 pages then nothing until a log off or a reboot, that was a fun one and it persisted even after a reformat. I can't remember what it was and i'm not trying to insinuate that you would have that particular virus per se, however I'd run the scans on each. As far as the behaviour that's being exhibited, well are all the computers using the network at the same time? How frequently does that happen and does that coincide with the network slowdown?

I'd also make sure that security measures are in place and being used on ALL machines that are connected to the internet in any way shape or form. Firewalls cannot protect against everything, especially if a user downloads and runs it.

have you compared settings between computers? Something is set on that one that is not letting you hit certain sites.

umm, no i havent.
what kinda settings are you talking about.. obviously internet security or firewall but anything in general?..

and i ran adaware, avg, and spybot s&d and installed zonealarm on one of the computers..its amazing how many viruses it had and it still ran.. ...the other computer wont let me open anything to do with an antivirus..i accidentally installed the spysweeper trial sweep, and i swept the computer to find.....about two trojans and a s@#!load of other malware and whatnot. anyway, it finished, and it said you must subscribe to spysweeper before doing anything to these infected files. so i try to download a free version..i thought there was one, and now any time i try to install spybotS&D or adaware or avg (anything having to do with anti-something) it shuts the program down about two seconds into the opening. ill just assume its got to do something with..i dont know. maybe the 130 viruses it found on his computer.. just a hunch..
and on some good news.
two of the wireless users are off my network and i didnt even have to ask

thanks val
