You should uninstall Symantec first as they could be conflicting. If you still get the error post up the full error message

Try using ErrorExpert. It can help you uninstall unwanted programs.

Default AVG installed !

Well I did install error expert but of course it wants me to cough up $30 after it cleans 1 of the 2000 "errors" it finds.,

I tried to install AVG again anyway and this time it worked.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that since I uninstalled Error Expert I'm now getting Drivecleaner pop-ups. Is there a connection I wonder ? Naturally Drivcleaner is not in the list of programs that I can uninstall and a search of the whole C drive doesn't find it either.
