Default [Answered] The internet on my laptop is going WAY SLOOOOW
This problem started happening about 2 days ago, and before then my internet was running just fine. Whenever I try to open web pages in Mozilla or IE or Opera or any browser, it takes forever to load the page, and sometimes several minutes. Before this problem started, pages would take no longer than 5 seconds to load. It also seems to take a really long time to connect to internet-based programs that connect to a server. I play a fair amount of online poker and it takes much longer than usual to connect to PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, etc. if that makes sense.

A few weird/interesting things about this problem:

- Whenever I download files using "save as..." or torrents or whatever, the download speed doesn't fall below 220kb/s
- Sometimes the web pages seem to load at the normal speed they did before this problem started, but still they almost always load much slower
- My laptop shares the internet connection with a desktop PC. The laptop gets its connection from a wireless router. Whenever I use the internet on the desktop, it's always fast like it used to be on my laptop
- Last night I ran Adaware and it came across a win32.trojan.downloader that I thought could be the problem. I removed it and it hasn't been detected since in several scans using Adaware, Spybot, Kaspersky, and AVG, but the internet still runs very slow

I'd really like to get this problem fixed as I use the internet on my laptop all the time. Any suggestions would be very greatly appreciated.

Hello sabes, and welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you may have a malware issue there, and still have some nasties that your scans didnt pick up. Just to be sure, can you do the prework in this link, and ill move it to the Hijackthis section where the security team can check it for you.

one other thing; torrent sites are very notorious for being rife with viruses and other nasties.

Well I just got around to running the AVG Spyware scan, which removed a bunch of cookies and a dialer. When I started back up in regular mode my AVG anti-virus came up with the "threat detected" pop up citing mszsrn32.dll as the problem. When I clicked "move to virus vault" my computer promptly crashed to a blue screen. I started it up and everything's running perfectly fine now. I'd like to give a big thanks to uncleed for suggesting the HJT process, as I was thinking of running a HJT scan but never thought of running AVG Spyware. Although I did run Adaware and Spybot and they did nothing for me, which makes you wonder how effective they really are..

Youre welcome sabes
Valis and the other security team will help you get it all cleaned up and running smooth again. Dont get rid of Ad aware and Spybot, they are both excellent programs. But there are alot of crafty infections out there, and no one program will detect them all. Thats one reason the security team and the techs have put together the Prework with all the different scans they ask for. If you work with them, and follow their instructions, theyll get you back to normal again.
