Default [Resolved] My Mom's computer problems

My mom's computer has recently been slowed down really badly. It used to be fairly fast, but all of a sudden tons of pop-ups started showing up, the computer started restarting, and it kept directing them to buying Spyware Soldier and Spyware Knight (I think those were the names). I got rid of them by Add/Remove programs, or so I hope.

Well the computer only has Service Pack 1 and most of the spyware programs I ran on my own computer need Service Pack 2. Anytime I tried to upgrade to Service Pack 2, it wouldn't let me and it would stop the automatic updates.

I tried Spybot, but it only loads and lasts a second before closing. The same has happened to CCleaner. I ran the AVG scan and it lasted two hours, and before I could get a log it restarted. The same thing happened with CounterSpy. Webroot Spysweeper worked for me, as did HijackThis. Thanks in advance for any help that you give me.
