okay, how long has this error been occurring? Is it recent? Did something change, such as adding new hardware/software? Disconnect from the internet and try logging off, see if you get the same error. I'm curious as to why your entire drive is shared out (the c$ indicates a hidden share, but that is 'most likely' xp pro doing that, not something malicious). The fact that you don't see anything in the others is indicative of nobody else using your system, so I'm kinda stumped. Run through the prework in my signature, follow the steps, and post a hjt log so we can see more in depth what is going on, if you could. Actually, first, run through them up to the ATF cleaner part; then reboot, and then try logging off. If you still get the error, finish and post a hijackthis logfile please.

Thanks,

v

I think you're on the right track valis, keep going.

FYI - every single harddrive by default is a hidden share by windows automatically. This has been in place for as long as I can remember....98 utilises this feature So it may have been introduced with NT...not 100% sure

thanks garhar.....I know xp pro came with more networking, or 'easier' networking than home, so I just assumed that was why hers had it and mine (home) doesnt....... I know it's default on pro, as I utilize the heck out of that feature at work....you got any ideas on this little dilly of a pickle?

Have a look at this Vanna from kellys korner.
To Enable or Disable:
If you hold a computer administrator account you can turn on or disable Fast User Switching. Here’s how:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click User Accounts.
  3. Under Pick a task, click Change the way users log on or off.
  4. On the Select logon and logoff options page, select the Use the Welcome screen and the Use Fast User Switching check boxes.
Notes:
1. Fast User Switching will not appear if it has not been turned on in User Accounts in Control Panel.
2. Fast User Switching is not available on computers that are members of a network domain.
3. Only users with a computer administrator account on a computer can turn on or turn off Fast User Switching.
4. Fast User Switching cannot be turned off while multiple users are logged on to the computer.
5. When Fast User Switching is not turned on, programs shut down when you log off, and the computer runs faster
for the next user who logs on.

Fast User Switching And The Welcome Screen Are Both Already Turned On Should I Turn Either One Off To Make Computer Faster.

I Have Decided To Not Worry About The Error Msg. Every Computer Person I Have Ever Told About The Problem Say It Is A Fluke And That No One Is Actually Using My Computer. I Will Just Live With The Problem Since It Is Intermittant And Has Been Happening Occassionally For Over 2 Years

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP.

I LOOK AT OTHER PEOPLE'S COMPUTER PROBLEMS AND DECIDE MINE ARE MINOR. I DO PLAN TO REPLACE THIS LAPTOP SOMETIME THIS YEAR AFTER ALL THE BUGS HAVE BEEN WORKED OUT OF VISTA. WILL TAKE THIS COMPUTER AND LEAVE AT MY BEACH HOUSE SO I DO NOT HAVE TO CARRY ONE BACK AND FORTH.

I Will Be Happy To Try This If You Feel It Is Important. The Problem Is That The Error Msg Does Not Happen Every Time I Log Off So I Would Not Be Able To Tell For Sure That It Is Actually Fixed.
I Will Also Be Happy To Just Forget The Problem Since Everyone Has Convinced Me That No One Is Actually Using My Computer. It Is Curious That No One I Have Ever Talked To In The Computer Field Has Ever Even Heard Of This Error Msg.

Thanks For All The Help
