Default [Answered] crash and the missing folder.

Often my graphics card crashes and this sometimes freezes the whole pc and the only way that i can sort it out on these ocassions is to turn the pc off at the wall. Usually this causes no problem however last time I did it the following two things had happend:

- The wall paper had vanished

- One of the folders on the desktop had also vanished and was not found in the recycle bin.

I am writting to ask if anyone can shed some light on this as to why and what happend here.

thanks

J

update the video card drivers. start > run > dxdiag > enter > display, box on the upper left should contain your video card info, go to the mfg's website and d/'l the latest drivers for your vc.

As the problems you discuss are also traits of a known virus, I would also recommend following the prework link in my signature and following the prompts there, as well.

thanks,

v

regarding the graphics card driver update: chip type is listed as x300/x550 series but on the website these are listed as seperate options when choosing a download. How do i know which.
