OK Hemo, here's what I recommend that you do, first, read the article in my signature, PCHF Protect Your PC. It will give you a better understanding of how and why to back up your PC, also listings of free anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewalls. So you can spend your money on more
RAM, or something fun.

. As well as information on why updates are so important.
Prior to wiping the PC, burn all of your important files, and pictures, music etc. to CD, or DVD if you have a DVD RW. Alternately, you can use an online storage site, such as
X Drive, they have a thrity day free trial, you can upload all of your files, wipe your PC, and then Download them back to your computer.
Depending on whether or not you have the operating CD or the manufacterers restore CD you will reformat and reinstall. Then immediately decide on what anti-malware you will be using, install them, and do your updates. Then install your programs, and replace your files.
