Hey Jdub,

OK, that's great about the Vundo infection, sometimes those RLMs are stubborn. Have you done a scan for Rustb Infection yet, in the myriad of instructions you have followed? Please download the above utility to your desktop, and carefullly follow these instructions.

Boot into Safe Mode:

Open Add/Remove Programs, uninstall DAEMON Tools SearchBar and WhenU if present.

Delete the following files and folders if present:

C:\vimsflwp.exe
C:\baiod.exe
C:\ownwlpm.exe
C:\vico.exe
C:\ryembqbd.exe
C:\xklxhlc.exe
C:\qawl.exe
C:\kptsss.exe
C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools SearchBar <== folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WhenU <== folder
C:\DOCUME~1\mark\Application Data\WhenU <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vbzip10.dll
C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys

Double-click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these logfiles along with a new HijackThis log just to be on the safe side.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW-
Followed your instructions, but apart from the .exe files none of the others were present. Also ran rustbfix, but nothing was found. Am including the requested logs (with exception of avenger.txt, which I cannot find).

Many thanks
Jdub

That's good news Jdub, don't look so blue, it means that there was no Rustbfix log to post. The .exe files were remnants from the infections.

Can you please fix this in HJT, reboot, and then post a new log. It can be tricky, and I want to make sure that it goes away completely.

Other than that, your logs look clean, are you still having the slow behavior? Don't worry, we can probably improve that. Let's get rid of this entry first, and then I'll give you the rest of the instructions. OK?

LGW-
Here is the HJT log you requested. Also, some good news: I installed some additional RAM (bringing me to a total of 768MB), and this seemed to perk things up a bit. However, while perusing Hardware Manager, I found that there was a problem with my video card (Radeon 9250 256MB). I went to the Diamond site and downloaded updated drivers, installed them and voila!- problems went away. Now, I have no idea why these problems occurred in the first place, but things seem much better . Any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Jdub

Hey Jdub,

Your Log is Clean!!!!

As far as the issues with your graphics card are concerned, it is quite possible that the conflict was causing the PC to have difficulty presenting because the drivers were corrupted. This can happen because of malware infections.

My suggestion would be to do a thorough regcleaning, and defrag, and then you should be in great shape. Let me know if you need instructions.

Looking forward to your reply,

Have already done the defrag at the recommendation of Chiawaikian. Will do the regclean. Things seem to be working well. My deep thanks to both you and Chiawaikian- you've both been a great help. Cheers!
