Hey Jdub,

Don't worry about the Safe Mode issue right now, it may be being blocked by the malware you are suffering from, it is definitely not because of your video card. For the time being use Safe Mode with Networking support, DO NOT GO ONTO THE NETWORK WHILE IN SAFE MODE. You should be fine.

Once we have your PC clean, we can address any other left over consequences of the infections.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Download ATF Cleaner
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Run HijackThis and check the following entries:
Code:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{8C9BC2E9-0514-1033-0618-020505310001}] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\{8C9BC2E9-0514-1033-0618-020505310001}\Update.exe" mc-110-12-0000272
Close all other windows except HijackThis and press "Fix Checked". Then close HijackThis and restart the computer.

Download Avenger from here:
Swandog46’s Public Tools Page

Open the program. Check the 'Input script manually' option.
Click the Magnifying Glass icon.
In the box that opens, paste this:

Files to delete:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\{8C9BC2E9-0514-1033-0618-020505310001}\Update.exe

and click 'Done'

Click the Traffic Light icon to start the program, and OK the prompts to reboot your PC.

Post the Avenger output.txt, which you can find at C:\Avenger\.txt, along with a new AVG Anti-spyware log. We're getting there, don't lose heart!

Chiawaikian-
Followed yr directions, and here are the logs. Avenger could not find the file you mentioned; AVG scan only turned up one tracker cookie. Still getting the infuriating "Explorer.exe" message, though.

Once again, thanks for the help.

Could it have been this:
QuickTime for Windows 6.5: "No Disk, Please Insert Disk In Drive D" Message

Can you post a new HijackThis log, so that we can be sure everything is clean?

Hello again, Chiawaikian-

Surprisingly, between my last post and this one the Explorer.exe seems to have disappeared- hopefully for good. Still experiencing slow opening of files and programs. Posting HJT log- thanks again.

Boot to safe mode. In safe mode, run HijackThis and check these entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {7740A9AA-173D-67B9-6D21-6FE4CAC6ED9D} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nfcjr.dll (file missing)

Close all other windows except HijackThis and press "Fix Checked". Then close HijackThis and restart the computer.

Other than that, I'm not sure what might abruptly cause the slow executing of files and programs.

Please download RegSupremePro from:
Macecraft Software - System Maintenance and Registry Cleaning made easy
Run ATF Cleaner again, then run RSP. It will want to make a backup of your cache, let it. Click on the Registry Cleaner tab, and choose Aggressive. When it has finished, click on Select, and choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds. Reboot the PC, again.

Also do a system refrag:
  • Double-click My Computer
  • Highlight a local hard disk drive by clicking on it once.
  • Right click the highlighted local drive
  • Click properties
  • Click the tools tab and click the defragment now button.

If the problem is still not fixed yet to this point, run Panda ActiveScan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report.
