Hi Anna,

OK, make your husband read the article too.

Seriously though, AVG is not an antivirus program, it is an anti Spyware program. The article explains that you should have one of each running, but only one of each. I use Avast, it is very reliable, and it's FREE!

I would also recommend that you upgrade the firewall, as the Windows firewall is not particularly effective. The article lists several excellent free firewalls as well.

There was really very little in the way of infections on the PC, which leads me to beleive that there is some maintenance that needs to be done, as well as a thorough registry cleaning.

Please download RegSupremePro from my signature. Run the cleaning program from the PreWork again, then run RSP. It will want to make a backup of your cache, let it. Click on the Registry Cleaner tab, and choose Aggressive. When it has finished, click on Select, and choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds. Reboot the PC.

Next, right-click on My Computer, click on Manage, Storage, Disk Defragmenter. Click on Analyze, then Defragment. Reboot the PC.

If your sister has her Operating System CD, I would also run this useful utility, just to make sure that there are no damaged or missing system files. With the CD in the drive, click on Start, Run, and type, sfc /scannow , then hit Enter. It is extremely important that you type the command exactly with the space between sfc and the /.

Please let us know if this improves the PCs performance. Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Edit: I forgot to address the Symantec issue, please hold on for a second

Hey Anna,

I forgot to address the excess Symantec traces issue. Please go to Add/Remove Programs, and make sure that there is nothing listed under Norton, Symantec, UpdateLive, or Security Suite.

Fix the following in HijackThis, close out, then rerun an HJT log in order to make sure that the entries are gone.

O16 - DPF: {1F2F4C9E-6F09-47BC-970D-3C54734667FE} - http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/asa/ctrl/LSSupCtl.cab
O16 - DPF: {3451DEDE-631F-421C-8127-FD793AFC6CC8} (ActiveDataInfo Class) - http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/asa/ctrl/SymAData.cab
O16 - DPF: {44990200-3C9D-426D-81DF-AAB636FA4345} (Symantec SmartIssue) - http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/asa/ctrl/tgctlsi.cab

Then go ahead, and follow the instructions in my previous post. Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi LGW, here I am after a long day working at the comp. I did every thing you've suggested, the highjackthis thing, the symantec thing, all the prework,I have Defragmented the Disk, I did the "sfc /scannow" thing.A the end of all I had the pc checked via the internet ( PANDA ) and this is the result:
Activescan.txt

By the way what do you mean with "AVG is not an antivirus program"? here it says AGV anti virus free edition!!

Thank you again and again.

Anna

I guess LGW was feeling sleepy then. She probably was thinking along the lines of AVG Anti-spyware:
AVG Free Advisor: AVG Anti-Spyware Free

AVG Anti-virus is of course, a different thing.
