It's me again!

Sad to say that I tried the FixME.reg solution and it still didn't work. But, on the plus side, the last two times I've booted up my computer, it's been a lot faster!

I don't know if this helps at all, but when I go to Display Properties, and try to pick a theme, it gives me the following error message:

---------------------------
Error Loading Theme
---------------------------
The theme could not load because one of the needed theme files could not be found. This can happen with themes that are not installed or authored correctly. You should verify that the wallpaper, screensaver, icons, sounds, and other files are in the correct location.
Theme: C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\Mystery (high color).theme
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

When I go to that location they have two types of files- Windows Theme files and background files (JPEG files) that match the themes. So the files seem to be there (says not modified since 10/2003, which is when I got my computer. I don't know if this is the slightest bit helpful, but thought I would volunteer any info I can.

I know you guys have already spent a lot of time on me, so let me know when this is a lost cause and I need to take it to a repair shop! Right now, I need to say thank you so much for your continued help in trying to figure out my poor, misbehaving computer! I really do appreciate your help with this!

Hey Guys,

@Noclue, I think I know why the reg fix didn't work! There is a type o in Chia's post. (No offense Chia, I didn't catch it until just now, and it's REALLY tiny) With your registry every space counts, here is the way it reads as you have tried it;

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System
"Wallpaper"=SZ:C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html]
There shouldn't be a space there it should read;

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System
"Wallpaper"=SZ:C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html]
Humor me on this and try it with the corrected code, OK?

Edit: OK something very odd is happening, when I save this post the space appears in the "corrected" version even tho it doesn't show in either view when it isn't saved. When you check it make SURE that the space is removed before adding it to the registry.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi!

So I tried it again and made sure to remove space, but it still didn't work. What a bummer! Any other ideas? Thanks!

Oh BLAST BOTHER AND BEDFEATHERS! This is really starting to irk me!
Not you dear NoClue, this background. Let me do a bit more research, and see if I can get our resident Magician to chime in, he usually has some very interesting fixes.

Don't give up hope!! We'll beat this thing!

OK, I found a reference that may be related. Give this fix a try, Microsoft Article 912049.

Hopefully if that doesn't work, Merlin will have an alternative.

Looking forward to your reply,

IT WORKS!! YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!

Thank you, thank you for all of your help! When I did the Windows recommended fix I was worried it wouldn't work as all the values it told me to look for (like NoDispAppearancePage) weren't there. But as a note they said to locate any value that says "wallpaper" and delete them. I deleted just one value that said "wallpaper", rebooted my computer and magic- there was my wallpaper!

This forum is amazing! Thank you so much ladygreenwitch for all of your help and everyone else for their help as well! Not only did I fix my computer but I've learned a ton! You have made me very, very happy!!
