Default [Resolved] Windows Installer error message box

When I launch Word 2003, I am greeted w/ 2 error boxes. The top box is titled 'Microsoft Office Word" and says 'The command cannot be performed because a dialog is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue.' I believe this error is referring to the lower box titled 'Windows Installer' and it reads 'Preparing to install...'
Upon launching Excel 2003, here the error box is titled 'Installing components for Microsoft Excel' and reads 'Installing: Microsoft Excel feature'.
In both situations, if you click thru the error boxes, the program eventually loads in about 1 min.
I am not sure if this is related; however, on a boot up, once I get to the desktop screen, I have an error message box whose title is six box shaped characters and reads 'Windows cannot find (followed by 5 box shaped characters). Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.'
If I click thru this box a 2nd box appears titled 'Desktop' and reads 'Could not load or run (followed by 5 box shaped characters) specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry. If I click thru, the 2 boxes cycle again then go away and all is fine.
I'm including a copy of my HJT log to see if I can solicit some help from the forum.
Tnx in advance.
Stan

Edit: Please only post HJT and Spyware logs as attachments, Thanks,

Hello.

Please run HijackThis and check these two entries:
F3 - REG:win.ini: load=??? ?
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=??? ?

Close all other windows except HijackThis and press "Fix Checked". Then close HijackThis and restart the computer.

Please inform me whether you are still having this problem.

Thanks Chiawaikian.
Good progress. We eliminated the startup error message.
We still however have the windows installer error messages.
Additionally, I recently lost my desktop icon that sits in the tray next to 'start'. I would like to know how to recreate this.
Tnx
