Great stuff, but I take it the Windows Installer must be coming up before Word even starts?

If so:
- If you go to Start, Run, and type in msconfig
- Under the startup tab, untick a box, reboot and see if the Windows installer comes back.
- If it does, go back in, put a tick back in the box, and untick the next one. Follow the same process until windows installer doesn't startup.

Maybe trying to install something which failed to install/uninstall at some point.

Sorry Madmonkey.
There were/are 10 checked items in that startup folder and I did as suggested to no avail. However, the 'ctfmon.exe' application always showed as checked after reboot which seemed strange.
also, you are correct that the windows installer (W/I) error message boxes are coming up before Word starts.
I also installed and uninstalled a couple differnt programs w/o any affect to the W/I problem.

Hey Guys,

@Stan, I don't think that you quite finished with the malware removal. In looking over your HJT I found several other entries that should be removed, as well as your Windows Messenger which should be disabled.

Can you please post a new HJT log before you continue troubleshooting with MadMonkey. It may be that there is still an infection which will make that work innefective.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

OK Thanks for that,

Please donwload Shoot the Messenger from my signature.
Please download CWShredder
and make sure that SpyBot is updated.

Boot into Safe Mode, and run which ever cleaner you used according to the instructions you followed earlier for PreWork.

Now run CWShredder, Have it perform a Scan, and fix whatever it finds.
Then run a full system scan with SpyBot. Allow it to fix whatever it finds.
Next, fix the following in HJT

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
If you are not familar with the dialup information in this entry, or if it is old, please fix this as well;

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{5849BB1F-EA26-49C8-95D7-ABFCA6A736AF}: NameServer = 205.188.146.145
Then reboot your computer. This next utility should resolve the problem if it is being caused by your installer, and not an corrupt Office file. With your OS CD in the drive, go to Start, Run, and type the following exactly;
sfc /scannow
Hit Enter. This utility will search for and replace any missing or damaged System Files.

Next, to rule out a damaged Office file, completely uninstall Office. Then run RegSupremePro. It will want to make a backup of your cache, let it. Click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has finished, click on Select, and choose All. Click on Fix, and allow it to fix everything that it finds. Reboot your PC, and reinstall Office.

OK, I'll be looking out for your reply, and crossing my fingers for you. .
