Why could you use Mozilla Firefox before? Was your internet connection cut off somehow when you uninstalled IE and worked on the regedit?

We can better help you if we get more information.

hi chia, internet connection was always working but I was not able to use IE7 then I downloaded mozilla, and it was working but obviously I couldn't do much because many things don't work without IE, at that point I decided to get rid of IE in order to get it brand new.last night I tried to put your suggestions in practice but it didn't work (it starts well asking for the windows disk but it says twice that the target file "DHTMLED.OCX" exists and is newer than the SOUCE one;it asks me if I want to overwrite the newest one and etheir way it takes me to another window telling me that "SETUP CANNOT COPY THE FILE iedw.exe". It says" ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert "Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD in the drive bla bla bla". The problem is that I don't have the disck because I downloaded it straight from microsoft as an update.
Now even mozilla stopped to work and I have to use another pc to communicate with you.
i wanted to ask you something......when I have installed my XP Pro I kept the I368 file on my machine so that I could avoid to use the disk.....now I have realized that I misplaced the disk. If I have to reistall XP pro can I use the I368 file???

thank you for your patience and if you need any other information don't esitate to ask me.

hi Thomas,
This link here is a Microsoft Knowledge base article on your problem you were getting when trying to use IE with Windows Update.
You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error 0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when you try to use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

In regards to using regedit and messing your computer up - use Mozilla Firefox and go here https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/
Install IE Tabs, and once that's installed, right click on this link here Microsoft Windows Update and select Open in IE Tab

This should get you into windows update - reinstall IE7 and then follow the knowledgebase article to resolve your initial issues.

unless you know 100% what you're doing - never go into the registry - it has the power to completel render the computer useless

unfortunately you need the windows cd before you can reinstall windows - there is no way around this.

Hi GaRHaR, first Merry Christmas,I thank you very much for replying,I managed to use the system restore and I went back to a safe point but still I cannot connect to the update site.
I tried to follow your suggestions but I got stucked at the microsoft resolution,it says:
1.
Click Start, click Run, type notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, and then click OK.

Note If you are prompted to choose a program to open the hosts file with, click Notepad, click to select the Always use the selected program option, and then click OK.

2.
In Notepad, configure any lines in the hosts file that contain entries for Windows Update so that they are not read when the file is accessed. To do this, place the number sign (#) in front of any line that contains "microsoft" and "update." For example, add the number sign (#) to the beginning of the following entries:

# 64.4.21.125 PC Help Forum.com - Computer Tech Support

# 64.4.21.125 Microsoft Windows Update

3.
Remove any lines that contain entries for Windows Update or for Microsoft Update. For example, remove the following entry if the entry exists:
http://update.microsoft.com
the problem is that I cannot find any of them, I can see some dirty stuff in there, what is going to happen if i delete them?
By the way the firefox thing…….doesn’t work.I managed to installed it but the right click> open IE tab didn’t appared.
Thank you and Merry Christmas once again
