Default [Resolved] Just a few questions.

Ok ill just number them so nobody gets confused.

First ill give specs:

AMD Athlon 3500+ Venice (I think, not sure)
Abit AN8 32x
XFX Geforce 7800gt
1gb corsair Value select ram
160 gb (WD i think)
Aspire 500W psu (bought from Microcenter like 3 yrs ago so dont know much about it now)
XP pro

1.) I used Partition magic 8.0or the first when i formatted recently. But now everytime i start up i come to the Windows boot screen. It basically asks which OS i want to use to start up :

Windows Pro
Windows Pro #1

Sometimes i can press enter and it goes through but most of the time it wont respond, and to ad to this the #1 OS doesnt work. Ive gone into the options (when it responds to my keyboard) but i never see an option to disable this and/or just load the one that works. Any help?

2.) Just rebuilt a new PC. I gave specs at top if it helps. But when i push the 'ON' button the fan lights and everything blink a few times before it actually starts up. Like its trying to start but cant get enough juice to do so. Im guessing my PSU needs to be changed since its kinda old.

3.) No matter what i do i always seem to get errors in the most normal actions. For 1 i have FEAR but cant seem to run it for to long without my PC freezing up. I have a good enough PC that i should be able to run it no problem but yet it still crashes. Same goes for running multiple programs. I.E. If i run Bitcomet, with Dvd Fab, and any other program, 9 times out of 10 ill get some sort of error or it will just freeze. Basically i believe my system runs a lot slower then it should be, and that makes me think i have some error in XP itself.

I do regualar scans with Antivirus and spyware progs. But only the basic little annoying spyware is ever found. Hijack This never comes up with anything unusual. Any ideas as to what may cause this? Ill include any logs u may need. But i run Ad-aware, Spybot, Xoftspy, HJT, AVG, Windows Defender, CCleaner, Reg Mechanic, System Mechanic, and i usually try other progs to see how they work. My comp seems like it would be clean but maybe i keep getting hijacked.

Anyways thanks for any help.

Welcome to the PC Help Fourm donpoppito.

Lets deal with these issues for you They should be all fairly simple.

1) Right click on My Computer and select Properties
Click on Advanced and then select Settings under Startup and Recovery
Once in here - Click on Edit under System Startup

Copy and past this here -
[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

2) Can you tell me what kind of power connector you have plugging into your motherboard? Does it have 20 pins or 24??

3) Could be any number of things - lets get you a clean bill of health with our own security team here - can you please follow the Prework link in my signiture, and post the resulting logs back here.

Sorry,

1) I meant copy what i had and put it into yours.
2) Most likely
3) I've moved the thread into the security section so the security team will see it for you.

And thanks for moving the log for me, didnt know if you wanted here or there.

Well the hal.dll error is a fairly easy one to fix...
However, it shouldn't have happened from changing that file.
Try this one.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Sort of worked, i still have to pick which OS i want to start but instead of going through after 30 seconds it goes to the same screen as the hal.dll problem. Basically if i dont click which OS i want in time it gives me that error.
