Hi Vamp

There's nothing worse than a non-responding pc, someone will along shortly to assist you.
Please bear with us.

Hey Vamp!

There can be several reasons that are causing this.
Though I know it's a lot of text, I think this link will help you further:

Startup is also a problem, after a while on the windows loading screen (light blue one) my desktop background appears but none of my icons or the start manager appears for about 30 seconds, task manager works but that is it. None of them Microsoft tips work, it isn't a driver issue. Everything is fine in Safe Mode and now the shutdown issue seems to have subsided...Weird..

Yes it is normal to have a lot of svchost.exe running however there is some malware which has that name.

Well I've scanned for everything, even bought a registry cleaner, but I still have my problems. On shutdown, everything freezes and I just see my desktop background and the hourglass cursor, after a minute or 2 the box comes up for "Restart" "Standby" and "Shut Down" clicking shutdown brings me to the "Windows is shutting down screen" 3-5 minutes I wait for my PC to shutdown...
