Default [Resolved] tweak to make windows XP "Start Up" somewhat faster?

Hi, I wonder if you all can help me,my laptop takes nearly 4 to 5 minute to start up,I know that depending on how many things you have the start up would take more or less time.

I checked or unchecked everything possible on my machine,via this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
Click on the "Control" Folder.
Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it to a value lower than 2000, say 1000 as a test.

I was able to have a faster shut down.

but know I would like to speed up the start up.

does anybody have any idea ?

thank you very much.

Hi Thomas,

There is a good tweak that will increase general performance over the whole computer...

Start -> Run -> Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> PriorityControl

Once in here, create a new DWORD value called IRQ8Priority with the value of 1 Reboot.

Sure,

Once you navigate to that location in your registry - if you right click in the right window, and select New - all your options are in there

Hi GaRHaR, I did it but I must say that I am not very impressed by the result.
Once I rebooted I got worried because I got twice the black screen with the white line at the bottom, and the machine took almost 10 min.to turn on.
I tried a second reboot and it was a bit better,3.14 minutes, just 1 minute less the time it used to take.

I thank you very much for your help, maybe I am expecting too much.

no problems

What are the actual specs of the computer, and i'll see if there's much more you can expect from the bootup time?
