Hey everyone, this is my first post! Well i've been having some trouble with my computer. I was wondering if you guys could help me. I had a virus on my computer before that deleted my login. So I put in the XP disc and repaired it. Now there is spyware on my computer and the original XP (no service pack updates) is back on here. I went to go update the service pack and it said that it was not allowed to install. I've tried to use Microsofts tech help website and i've followed their directions but i still cant get it to install. Any ideas? I also can get to my Task Manager. When I hit Cntrl Alt Delete it says its been disablied by the administrator (I am the administrator). I also have spyware on IE and the little clicking noises drive me nuts. The pop ups make me go crazy too. Well i know i have a bunch of different problems but if anyone can help, please let me know. This is a log file from HighJackThis. Any ideas on what to delete? Check the attachments for the log.

Hello Kellius018,

I've moved this thread to the hijackthis section so that the security team can analyse your log. I would really help if you could tell us the exact message you receive when you try to install your updates. Also, if you go to My Computer, Control Panel, User Accounts. You will see your logon name there. Make sure you are listed as "Computer Administrator" and not "Limited Account".

Hi..

Please download FixWareout
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\icccapp.exe

Reboot..................................

Should you have problems connecting to the internet after the fix, follow these instrutions.
Please go to Start -> Control Panel Network Connections. Rightclick on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up) and leftclick on Properties. Doubleclick on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
(This is Ewido 4.0 renamed. If you already have Ewido installed, please update to AVG Anti-Spyware which has a special "clean driver" for removing persistent malware)
1. After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
2. Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next".
3. Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree".
4. Accept default installation path: C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, click "Next", then click "Install".
5. After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray.
6. The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'.
7. Then right click on AVG Anti-Spyware in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
8. Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
  • Press "OK".
  • Click the "Extended tab" and scroll down the list to find AVG Anti-Spyware guard.
  • When you find the guard service, double-click on it.
  • In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the "Stop" button.
  • From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on "Manual".
  • Now click "Apply", then "OK" and close the Services window.
9. Select the "Update" button and click "Start update". Wait until you see the "Update succesfull message. If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the AVG Anti-Spyware Full database installer from here.
Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.
Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".
Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as follows:
1. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
  • Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
  • Under "How to Scan?", "Possibly unwanted software", and What to Scan?" leave all the default settings.
  • Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan" and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".
2. Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
3. Click "Complete System Scan" to start.
4. When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.
IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button?
5. Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\
6. Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done, reboot normally and submit the log report in your next response.

Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. Doing so may hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection.
AVG Anti-Spyware is free for 30 days and all the extensions of the full version will be activated. After the 30 day trial, active protection extensions will be deactivated and the program will turn into a feature-limited freeware version that you can can continue to use as an on-demand scanner or you may purchase a license to use the full version.

Well that worked amazingly well. All the spyware has been takin off my pc now. Thank you for that and your help. I still have a few more problems. When I hit cntrl alt del a message comes up that says "Task Managers has been disablied by your administrator. I am the admin and I'm on that account. How to I enable the task manager?

The other problem I am having is installing Windows Service Pack 2. I get half way through installing and it says something about "Access Denied" and then it uninstalls everything. I've tried to do microsofts solution but I cant get it to work. I could be doing the solution wrong but i dont know. Anyone have this problem or know what to do?

There are a number of fixes for Task Manager so try these...

Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator

Will you also need to find out why your Service Pack fails so:

Please save and run the download. It will copy the results to your clipboard. Will you copy and paste them back here please.
