Default [Resolved] Blue screen of death..... part II

Hi, I get a similar problem message to part I

A problem has been detected ans windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" Technical info:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0XF853COBF, 0XF8988208, 0XF8987F08)
*** winkey.sys- Address F853COBF, base at f853COBF base at F8535000, Datestamp 3b7d855c.

then shutting down and restart which freezes when loading windows XP.

I have an laptop and it always happens when the little one has to work (sometimes i think its just lazy ) They askii code above may vary as i copied the error message from the board here but the message is very similar to the one above, winkey.sys error. have formated the pc new and reinstalled winxp, but still persistent. don't know what to do anymore.

Hello Tedra,

Welcome to PCHF.

winkey.sys is a non-windows system file.

Are you using any software called "Passware Kit"? If so, I would suggest uninstalling it, as this is what is causing your problem!

never heard of passware kit, could it be incredimail??? it often (not only) happens while it is open, is there a chance to check what is wrong if i don't have passware kit??? as the laptop was bought used, could it be some hardware issue as well, like dirty/blocked cooling system?? haven't come around yet to check/clean them.

Hi Tedra, if it's not PasswareKit, the only other program that I can see that uses winkey.sys is a keylogger called WindowsKey. I need you to follow the link on my signature "PCHF Prework" and post your log back here. A member of the security team will reply with a fix shortly after.
