Question [Resolved] Wife's computer slow & HD runs a lot

Hi all!

My wife's computer seems to run VERY slowly - all the time. I also notice that the HD is working very frequently.

She is running Windows XP with 3 user accounts. Could this cause the slow down?

Also, she has Norton Internet Security running. Again, could this be the culprit?

I have attached Ewido and HJT logs. Any assitance would really be appreciated!

Jeff

Hya Jeff.

Not much wrong sofar:

Run HijackThis , select to do a "system scan only" and then place a check beside the following:

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/40...02/Coupons.cab
Now first close all windows and browsers other then HijackThis , then click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

Can you also post a hjt log for each of the 2 other accounts?

Thanks for your reply Joe!

Attached are three log files. The hijackthisjeanette20060924.txt is from the same user that I submitted earlier, but after removing the line noted in your earlier note. The other two files are for the remaining users on the computer as you requested.

Thanks again for your help!

No problems there either.

What happens exactly? Is the pc slow all the time, or only sometimes? And with everything, or only when doing something specific?

Also when you say that the HD is working very frequently, do you see the HD led flashing, or hear the HD working hard?

No problems in the log files is definitely a good thing!

Just about any process is painfully slow: loading applications; switching screens; loading webpages; switching users; start up; shut down; etc.

I haven't really paid any attention to the HD LED, but I can hear the HD working feverishly very frequently and when I wouldn't expect it.

Is it possible that the Norton Internet Security with three users is causing this?

Something else just occured to me...I wonder if she has enough memory? The machine is an HP Pavilion that is only a few years old. Could lack of memory be the problem?

How much memory (RAM) do you have? Right click on "My Computer" and you will see from the General tab.
