That are very low system specs for WinXP, and probably indeed will be the reason why it doesn't run very fast.

You could use an upgrade.

Any suggestion on how much/what type of memory I should look at?

You can use this link to see what type you would need:

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Determine My Memory Needs

And I wouldn't add more then 256 mb looking at the processor in there.

I used the website for MY computer and it is a cool website. Unfortunately it wouldn't work for my wife's computer. I did a little digging and found that her machine is maxed out at 256MB!

Aren't Norton applications usually resource hogs? I think that I will uninstall Norton Internet Security and anything else that I can find and see if that helps any. I might format the hard drive and reinstall just the basics. Would it help to NOT have multiple users? I'm using Windows XP - should I go back to the previous version of Windows?

(My little boy is here and insisted that I use this smiley: )

I realize that we have wound up off topic for this forum. Any response to my questions above would be appreciated and you can close the issue after that if you'd like to.

Thanks again for all of youe assistance.

Nothing to do about that I'm afraid.

Aren't Norton applications usually resource hogs?

Yup, they are.

I think that I will uninstall Norton Internet Security and anything else that I can find and see if that helps any.

If you do then have a look in our download section for some free protection software that are alot less of resource hogs then Norton.

If the pc is connected to the net then you should always have a firewall and AV running.

Have a look at these AV's for instance:

http://www.pchelpforum.com/anti-viru...kaspersky.html
http://www.pchelpforum.com/anti-viru...e-edition.html

And these firewalls:

http://www.pchelpforum.com/firewall-...-firewall.html
http://www.pchelpforum.com/firewall-...e-edition.html

(never use more then one AV, and one firewall at the same time though)

I might format the hard drive and reinstall just the basics.

That indeed also usually works to speed up a pc.

Would it help to NOT have multiple users?

Afaik that shouldn't make a difference.

I'm using Windows XP - should I go back to the previous version of Windows?

Looking at security reasons and just because XP is a better O.S. I would stay with that, but looking at the system specs an older O.S. should be better suited for that pc.

Whe have lot's more.

ect. ect.
