[Resolved] Computer and Internet Sluggish and Unable to Install New Norton

Everything began running a little slow a few months ago, but my
Norton Virus scan didn't detect anything and my Microsoft Defender never gave any kind of warning. I noticed it, but didn't think much of it and I defraged. I recently bought Norton 06 and I can't seem to install it. I get an unusual error code when doing the integrity quick scan. And have been unable to install. I downloaded AVG thinking it might catch something Norton had not and I haven't found anything different, but the problems persist.

Hya Gfscharff, welcome to PCHF.

Run HijackThis , select to do a "system scan only" and then place a check beside each of the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = MSN.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = MSN.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = Windows Live
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = Windows Live
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Link...cid={SUB_CLCID}
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll (file missing)

Now first close all windows and browsers other then HijackThis , then click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

After that reboot your pc, and post a new HijackThis log please.

Still running slow, and I'm still unable to install my norton 2006 I'm still getting the same error code.

Have you tried uninstalling the old Norton first? If needed you could use this app:
